Binamra Aryal is an MS student in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Arlington, advised by Christoph Csallner, and holds a BS in Computer Science from Texas A&M University–Texarkana. His research began with a dislike of mess: reading Cunningham on technical debt, then Fowler on refactoring, he became convinced that the harder problem is not finding bad code but predicting which bad code a team will actually choose to repair. His current work mines release histories of long-lived Java systems to forecast where refactoring effort lands next, and he is interested in what that means for coding agents, which optimize for correctness and are largely indifferent to the debt they leave behind. Outside research he is usually outdoors, listening to something, or being supervised by his two cats.
